Going to camp soon

On Sunday I'll be going to camp for two weeks with a team from my church in Massachusetts. The camp is called Uni stroitel ("young builder"), and I've been there once before. We traditionally visit a different camp. If you look in the "camp" labels in my sidebar, you can read more about the history of our visits.

Here's a photo from the last time I was at Uni Stroitel, three (I think) years ago. The girls on the far right were sisters, working in the camp kitchen. They're in college now and I keep touch with them via one of the social networks online. Some of the other kids in the photo are from two orphanages that I visit.

I'm hoping I will see some familiar faces this time!

  1. I didn't know there were Christians in Massachusetts! Ok, a very bad joke on my part! With all the craziness that goes on in the so called liberal states it is good to know there are some people out there that serve the Lord in spite of it.

I miss the times when I traveled as a translator to different churches, camps, revival meetings throughout Russia. It was so good. I do not think I will ever forget the people I used to work with.

Enjoy the moment. Cherish every step of the way. God bless you and the team as you pour your love on those who feel so unlovable. It will only happen once. Enjoy it.

  3. Hi,

I enjoyed reading your blog today! I will be traveling to St. Petersburg (volunteering in Yaroslavl for two weeks) during July 18-20 and really want to worship and attend a Christian church while there, can you guide me? My pastor recommended Word of Life.

    Blessings to you!

  4. To Jonna:

Try Calvary Chapel. If I am not mistaken they have one there. The teaching is always solid, the worship is great.

    Just my two cents.

  5. Hi Jonna,

I can recommend several churches, including my own. There are 3 Calvary Chapels, I can probably recommend all of them. Do you need there to be English in the service? I guess the main thing is for someone to show you where the church is. Leave me some contact info so that I can get in touch with you when I'm back in the city.

P.S. I have relatives in Siesta Key!

  6. Thanks so much to you and vitali for your recommendations . I don't speak any Russian so a bit of English is good, however, to witness God's work and presence is what matters. English or not! I leave the states this Friday and plan to attend Hillsong in Moscow. I then meet up with the volunteer group (through Cross Cultural Solutions) to travel to our homebase in Yaroslavl. Although I am active in Christian mission work (was in Africa this past fall) this is a volunteer travel grant I was awarded through my company so I will be with a group of 13 from all over that actually paid for this volunteer vacation, so they have to be pretty cool people. Pray that I can be a light to all, including those in my group! So at this point I am not sure if I will be traveling alone or with someone else who wants to make the weekend trip to St. Petersburg. I have a reservation at a hostel but that could change. I would love to attend your church so I appreciate any details!

How neat you have relatives near me. I love Siesta Key and I am there quite a bit, especially at sunset! My favorite beach here...small world indeed!

    Safe travels to you!
